Munster Senior League
Just like it’s Leinster counterpart the Munster Senior League goes to the wire.
Cobh Wanderers twice came from behind in a game that saw four goals in a second half five minute spell to set up a winner takes all title clash.
The FAI Intermediate Cup finalists eventually won a five goal thriller with reigning champions Avondale to set up a league decider with UCC.
Avondale were the better team for most of the game and despite being short of some key players made life very difficult for the team chasing the league.
The home side hit the angle with a great effort on 15 minutes from Spratt before forcing Devine into two top class saves.
Wanderers almost took the lead against the run of play in the last minute, but a Mikey O’ Shea shot flew just wide of the left post.
Avondale deservedly took the lead on 56 minutes when the Simon Falvey slipped the ball past the covering defence and beat the keeper with his effort.
The Cobh management responded by consulting their bench and summoned Griffin and Stoat- the move proved instrumental.
Indeed, Griffin set up the equaliser, teeing up Stapleton to finish on 67, but only after some brilliant Eoin Hasting play.
However, the celebrations were barely finished before Avondale won a penalty and retook the lead.
In a hectic period Cobh were level within an instant. The ball broke to Stoat who fired towards goal allowing Hastings to touch home.
The madness didn’t end there! Unbelievably, a minute later Stapleton smacked a free to the net via a big deflection to grab the lead for Cobh for first time in the game.
Wanderers had to dig in for the remainder of the game but held on to set up a mouthwatering title decider.
First, however they have to take on Ringmahon Rangers in the Beamish Cup Final in Turners Cross this Tuesday.
