St John Bosco-2
A Derek Lawlor double helped Lucan United to win by the odd goal in five on Wednesday night.
The Senior 1A side’s three first half goals were enough to ensure they defeated St John Bosco to get their season off to a winning start in the process and Lawlor banked two of them.
The home side started the brighter and within 10 minutes had nosed in front thanks to a Derek Lawlor finish.
Lucan looked the better over the next 15 minutes, but found themselves level as Bosco pounced on a mix up after a free was sent into the area to equalise.
United responded well and were back in front five minutes later when a flowing move down the left and some nice skill by Andrew Bracken lead to Luke Halpin slotting the ball home.
Lucan added what turned out to be a crucial third five minutes before the turn when former Crumlin United captain James Lee broke down the right and crossed brilliantly for Lawlor to finish.
The second half was a dull a fair as both teams failed to create chances in what was becoming a stop start affair.
Bosco’s did push forward in a bid to get a result as the half wore on and they did set up a tense final 10 minutes when they pulled one back in expert fashion.
The visitors did give Lucan some late scares but the hosts held out to secure all three points.
