Oscar Traynor Trophy Play-Off Round
Kerry District League – 1
Athletic Union League – 5
Boo Kenny’s Athletic Union League representative panel advanced to the quarter-final of the Oscar Traynor Trophy as they easily dispatched the Kerry District League in their play-off game in Mounthawk Park on Sunday afternoon.
Recent Sheriff YC signing Peter Hopkins broke the deadlock for the visiting AUL after he stroked home with thirteen minutes on the clock.
Stephen Donnelly then doubled his side’s advantage just three minutes later.
Robbie Monaghan then put his name on the score-sheet on 38 minutes to put the AUL three to the good, however, Kerry did pull one back through Sean Brosnan shortly before the break to ensure the Dublin men only held a two-goal advantage during the interval.
However, the AUL proved to be in sterling form on the day and restored their three-goal advantage on sixty-five minutes through Dean Byrne before Hopkins completed the scoring with his second and the AUL’s fifth with fifteen to play.
The AUL now advance to the quarter-final stage of the prestigious trophy where they will meet the Wexford Football League for a coveted place in the final four.
