AUL Premeir A side Ballymun Utd have made the decision to make the big switch from junior soccer to the intermediate ranks by submitting an application to join the Leinster Senior League.
The former FAI Junior Cup winners have opted to follow the same path as previous former AUL Premier A sides and Junior Cup winners Portmarnock and Killester in making the big switch.
The club have been with the AUL since 1971 and speaking exclusively with The JSP, club secretary Bernard O’Connor said “we are leaving the AUL with a heavy heart. We have made some great friends in the AUL and there are great people there but we felt a move was in the best interests of the club.”
“The club has always aspired to play at the highest level and we looked at this back in 2001 and 2009. If our application is accepted to join the LSL it will be a new challenge for the club and and the aim would be to gain promotion each year until the club is in the top division. We have to meet that challenge for the club.”
Ballymun Utd will not know what division in the LSL they would be placed until their application is considered.
