FAI Intermediate Cup
Glenville FC-0
Edenderry Town -1
Edenderry stalwart Derek ‘Ike’ Foran fired them into the open draw of the FAI Intermediate Cup on Sunday morning.
The defender scored the only goal of the game as Town defeated Glenville in Palmerstown to reach round three and maintain their undefeated start to the season.
The visitors had more of the ball and better territory early on, but Glenville had the best chance of the opening exchanges.
Indeed, but for a top drawer Eddie McDonald save Edenderry, who defeated the same opposition in the third round of last years competition, would have went into the break behind.
Edenderry created a number of half chances early in the second half and eventually got the lead their all round play deserved on the hour.
Aaron McDonnell tried the spectacular when he let fly come set piece time from over 30 yards the home keeper proved equal to the effort, but the save was rebounded into the direction of Foran.
The defender showed striker like instincts and riffled home what turned out be the games decisive goal.
Glenville did have good spell post going behind and will feel they may have done enough to force extra time, but the side who exited the tournament at the boots of eventual winners Liffey Wanderers last season saw the game out and continue their impressive start to the season.
