East Wall Bessborough 4-1 Ely Woodlawn
It was only six short weeks ago when East Wall Bessborough had less than a quarter of their team report back for pre season training but what a difference a month and a half can make. With the future of the team uncertain they brought in Keith Meehan as Manager and Tony Kane as his assistant and put the call out for new players. In short shrift they had a squad of 28 assembled and began shaping up for the season ahead with as many friendlies as they could cram in.
Cut to last weekend and it seems all the hard work as paid off as they faced, and defeated, an Ely Woodlawn side who must not have known what hit them. With the first three goals coming from Peter Flood, Derek Burnett and Billy Walsh and a fourth from the spot from that man Tony Kane, the solitary reply from this experienced Ely side served as scant consolation as the sides hit the break.
The second half was more of the same with chance after chance falling to the home side but none of them being converted. Still, they won’t mind. It’s their name that goes into the draw for the next round.
For a club celebrating ten years this year it would have been a shame to not be able to field a senior team but here’s to another few decades playing and following their club motto “Together We’re Stronger”
