Byrne spent time at Bray Wanderers, TEK, Greystones and was a player manager at Enniskerry.
The gym owner, who is in training for a massive December Dublin derby with Gerrard Whitehouse, took time out of his pre camp routine to this week pick the best 11 footballers he has played with for the JSP.
Jay Byrne- My Best #11
So after playing with Bray, Tek, Greystones and Enniskerry I have made up the best 11 I can think of. Hopefully I didn’t leave anyone out- there were a few tough calls.
GK- Ryan Coulter
Keeper would have to Be Ryan Coulter, he has everything in my opinion and a top class guy.
RB : Guy King
I played with him at Greystones and Enniskerry, he had everything, great at attacking and delivering crosses but even better defensively. A gent too.
LB : Dane Massey
I only played a few games with him in the Bray reserves but another excellent attacking minded defender with a serious whip of a ball.
CB : Ian Horan
Ian was my skipper at Greystones and by God could he read a game. His all round game was top class. He really had everything.
CB : Darren O Connor
I played with Darren at TEK, was excellent in the air and had serious pace for a centre half. He is one that could of played at a higher level.
CM : Omar Taha
Omar was also part the Greystones team and if you where looking for an amateur football version of Roy Keane he was the man, absolute Trojan in the middle if the park. His tackling, passing and work rate was outstanding.
CM : Dave Mc Donald
I played with him at Greystones and had the privilege of signing and playing again with him at Enniskerry. Dave was the most technically gifted player I’ve played with, not blessed with pace and didn’t tackle too much but the man was a genius with the ball at his feet. He made more men look stupid than I’ve ever seen as he used to go past them.
LM : Gaz Fitzsimons
Had to be Gaz Fitzsimons as he had everything you wanted in a player attitude, ability, honesty and commitment. He scored plenty of goals and created a serious amount. He was also a deadball specialist.
ST : Shane O Neill
I played with Shane in Bray and then 8 years later signed him for Enniskerry. He was the best natural goalscorer I’ve played with, everything he hit went in. He had strength for a smaller guy and had a serious thump of a ball. Very calm and collective once he got in on goal.
ST : Glenn Byrne
The little brother, who I signed at Enniskerry at 18. By the time of his second season became a goal scoring machine in Major Sunday. Had the lot could score every type of goal, never missed training and was a trojan and workhorse as a striker.
ST : Paul O’Sullivan
I played with Sullo at Greystones. He was the nicest guy you could play with, a gent, but terrorised goal keepers. He was literally a goalscoring machine and could score all types of goals..
Subs bench as I feel these should have made it
