Current Booth Road star man Mickey Collins takes the MY Best #11 hot seat today and has picked a team that boasts Internationals and established stars of the Premiership.
Collins, who is playing Saturday football at present, was a youth at Liverpool and an underage Irish Interndational people were warned to watch out for. Stints in Triestina Seire B and APE Pitsilia in the Cypriot Second Division followed his Liverpool days before a return to Amateur football. He was stand out for Cherry Orchard last season as they won promotion and has been key to Booth Roads cup runs this term.
My Best #11 Mickey Collins:
I went with a 4-5-1.
Goal Keeper: Derek Souter
I played in Cyprus with Derek,. Ex Dundee and Aberdeen goal keeper- he cleaned that club out withg contract he was on (money bags)!
Right back: Michal Scazny
One here from the Czech Republic. He is an ex team mate from my time in Cyprus. He is a great lad and a smashing full back, his father managed Panathiakos and is the current Debrecen coach. His sister Paulina Scasna is an Czech international footballer, cracker too!
Centre Half : Martin Kelly
People will know Martin from his time at Liverpool. I met him at 14 on my first trial and I always remember telling my dad he would go to the top. I am not surprised he’s now a millionaire. He is a class act and great friend. We went every where together over in Liverpool- good times great memories.
Centre Half : Gabor Nagi
The Hungarian centre half was captain of our team in Cyprus. He was a brilliant leader. He retired and bought a restaurant in Budapest and is always asking me over. I wouldn’t mind a good session over there!
Left Back: Jonny ‘Boy’ Routledge
My best mate when I was over at Liverpool and I still speak to him on the wats app most days. He visited me last year for a few pints. He is with TNS now in Wales hard as nails nearly as tough as me.
I played with James for Ireland under 17s and 21s. I played alongside him in our 2-O win over Greece in the under 17 Euro Championships. He exceeded what I though he would do in the game to be honest, fair play to him.
Midfield: Jay Spearing:
Another ex Liverpool team mate. James is a top lad and looked after me from day one as a older player in Liverpool. Mind you he could never beat me at table tennis! Captain at Bolton now.
Right Midfield-Danny Guthrie:
I played alongside Danny in a couple of reserve games for Liverpool. He is an outstanding player, has everything and I am surprised he’s not at the very top. He’s not far off it mind you.
Sean was destined for the very top at Liverpool, a great lad, leader, hard worker and could play aswell. He had a terrible car crash that killed his mate and left him out for two years and had to retire. I firmly believe he would of went on to play for the first team. Great player and top lad.
Left Midfield: Robbie Brady
I played with Robbie underage and at 21 level for Ireland. Probably the only Irish man to have a better left peg than me I’ll give him that!
Striker: Trevor Molloy
Up top alone, is Billy Boy, the one and only Trevor Molloy. I played with Trevor at Bluebell nearing the end of his career. He is just an outstanding player, had everything, fitness, unreal finishing, the lot. I don’t know how he’s not sitting on a couple of million. The best striker I’ve played along side or watched up close.
