Is it proof just how highly regarded Sheriff YC are or a slight on the League of Ireland that the AUL Premier A are shorter odds than some Division 1 sides to win the FAI Senior Cup?
The first round of Irish football’s blue ribbon tournament kicks off this weekend with 12 amateur sides hoping to progress to the second round.
You can only get odds on three of those sides going all the way in the competition.
Paddy Power have given prices on FAI Junior Cup winners Sheriff YC, FAI Intermediate Cup finalists Cobh Wanderers and Senior Sunday side Crumlin United.
Interestingly you Sheriff’s opponents this weekend Bluebell United haven’t been priced by the betting company.
Even more intriguing is the fact Sheriff are a shorter price than Wexford FC and Athlone Town of the League of Ireland First Division.
It seems a massive compliment for the Junior side to be priced much shorter than Intermediate side and while no one expects them to go and win the cup it does show the esteem Alan Reilly’s men are held in that they are more favoured than Wexford and Athlone to do well in the contest.
