Leinster Junior Cup, Saturday section
Booth Road Celtic-4
Pegasus St James Athletic-2 (AET)
Booth Road Celtic needed extra time to see off a plucky Pegasus in the Leinster Junior Cup on Friday night.
The Major 1 Saturday table toppers were hauled back twice by the side that sit bottom of the same table meaning one of the fancied Saturday sides in the tournament needed extra time finishes to progress to round 2.
As it was the Clondalkin outfit eventually managed to score four goals for the fifth time in six league and cup games to progress with a cushion.
Booth Road broke the deadlock just over 10 minutes in as Shane Merrigan cushioned a ball over the top into the path of Jordan Payne and the former Ireland under-18 player made no mistake from close range.
That goal was enough to separate the sides at the break
Not long into the second half and the side propping up the xx table drew level with the side topping it, but parity didn’t last long as within a minute the hosts were back in front.
Mikey Collins produced another weighted pass to allow Nathan O’Callaghan to kick the Booth ahead.
At that stage it looked as if the hosts might kick on and extend the lead further, but Pegasus were not for wilting and fought back into the tie. They leveled the game for a second time and managed to force extra time.
Collins produced another assist after the turn feeding Payne for his second as the home line let out a sigh of relief before celebrating.
That strike put Booth Road back on track for Round 2 and former Liverpool youth Collins added some gloss right at the death as the home side won by a two goal cushion.
