FAI Intermediate Cup
UCD came from behind to defeat in form Newbridge on Friday night.
The Students traded places with the Senior Sunday new boys at the end of last season as they suffered relegation while the Kildare side jumped up to the top flight.
The sides traded goals on Friday and it was UCD who managed to outscore Newbridge and claim a top flight scalp and a place in the third round of the prestigious competition.
UCD, who reached the final in the last season before it was moved to the Aviva Stadium, fell behind in the tie.
Cody Mullhall broke the deadlock just after the 30 minute mark showing great control before volleying home in his first Senior start for the club.
The lead was short lived as UCD leveled straight away. A clever finish from Sean Byrne saw them restore parity and they remained on level terms going into the break.
Four minutes after the restart and the visitors were in front. Conor Cannon, who stood out in a relegation season last term, collected a clever Byrne pass before finishing to put the Students in progression pole.
That strike proved enough for the Belfield side and the recent finalists march on to round 3.
