Leinster Junior Cup
Usher Celtic-2
Rivervalley Rangers-1
Troy Carey came off the bench to fire Usher Celtic into round 3 of the Leinster Junior Cup.
Former AUL rivals and LSL new boys Rivervalley Rangers didn’t quite give the Reigning AUL Premier A champions a scare, but were in the game till late on.
Indeed Usher needed a fine Carey finish to ensure progression to the next round.
Usher got off to the perfect start and were in front after just 10 minutes when Wayne Walker found the net.
To their credit Rivervalley regrouped and found their feet somewhat and came close to leveling when Shane Brady robbed the keeper, but his curling effort from a tight angle just squeezed past the post.
Usher then felt they had extended the lead not once but twice, but had both goals ruled out and soon found themselves pegged back.
Lee Murray added the finishing touches to an Anthony Dowdall knock down to leave it all square at the break.
Clear cut chances were few and far between after the break, but both sides did threaten on the break. Usher did manage to steal a winner, when the stole the ball high up the pitch, feed Carey and he showed great composure in the box before finishing.
