LSL Senior 1
Swords Celtic joined one of the most populated promotion battles in amateur football with an impressive win over Liffey Wanderers on Friday night.
Celtic hit twice late on to secure a deserved win and move to within three points of the top three in Senior 1.
Owen Jones ensured a positive Swords start didn’t go unrewarded when he broke the dead lock after 20 minutes.
Jones finished into the bottom corner after Shaun O’Brien charged down an attempted clearance and laid on the grateful attacker.
Swords held that lead up and until the 70 minute mark and were disappointed they didn’t add to it.
However, Aidan Roche squared things up for the promoted side and at that stage it looked like Wanderers might go on to finish the stronger.
Yet it was Swords who produced the goods late on. Five minutes later and they were back in front as Graham Duff headed home a Jones corner and Clavin Dooney wrapped things up as he benefited from a brilliant Robbie Farrell run to put two between the sides.
The win see’s Swords join a whole host of names put forward as potential promotion candidates, while defeat prevented Liffey’s from returning to the top of the second tier.
