FAI Junior Cup
Collinstown hit Ely Woodlawn for six to eventually progress into Round 4 of the FAI Junior Cup.
On a weekend that see’s a host of teams battle it out for a place in the open draw Collinstown were playing catch up somewhat winning a rescheduled third round encounter in Clondalkin.
It wasn’t quite routine for the fancied LSL Major side as AUL outfit Ely Woodlawn went into half time level and did attempt a second half revival but it was Collinstown who progressed.
The in form Ian McNeill scored for the second week running as he opened the score around the 20 minute mark.
The visitors leveled via a free kick 10 minutes later, but Collinstown dominated the remainder of the half and should have taken a lead into the break. Ger Short was causing problems in particular, but couldn’t find the goal to put his side in front.
Mikey Griffin did put Collinstown in front, with his second goal in two games shortly after the restart and within two minutes the hosts had a two goal cushion. Last weekend’s match winner Daniel Matthews found the net to make it 3-1.
McNeill then scored again and at that stage a comfortable wide margin win looked on the cards.
However, a quickfire brace from the visitors saw them get to within one with 15 minutes remaining.
Dylan Clarke managed to settle any home nerves when he put two back between the sides, before Short finally got his goal right at the death as Collinstown won by three goals.
