Wexford Premier Division
Courtown Hibs – 2
Kilmore Utd – 1
Goals from Michael Kinsella and what proved to be the winner from Stephen Moloney secured the three points for Hibs in what was only their second league game of the season on Sunday.
Hibs started the brighter and looked dangerous with former Irish Junior international Leighton Gleeson and Stephen Moloney controlling the middle of the pitch and Michael Kinsella and Glenn Hughes threatening the Kilmore defence up front.
Hibs struck first with Moloney playing through Hughes who squared for Kinsella for his 4th goal of the season.
Gleeson then went close with a fine drive superbly saved by the kilmore keeper before Eugene O’Brien was then denied again by the keeper.
Kilmore then got into the game through Peter Goldsmith, their best player on the day but it was a long ball and a mix up in the Hibs defence which resulted in the equaliser.
Courtown reacted well however and Hughes was denied by a clearance off the line after a good run before Hibs regained the lead.
Conor Fortunes free kick was whipped in perfectly and a flick on by Gleeson set Moloney up to finish over the advancing keeper’s head into the corner of the net.
In the second half Hibs started as they finished. Gleeson and Eugene O Brien combined well to find Conor Fortune but he fired wide.
The game quietened down after that neither side really threatened apart from Hibs Stephen Fortune’s header cleared off the line.
Kilmore threw everything they had at Hibs in the last 10 minutes but the Hibs back line of Jack Freegrove, Cormac Moore, Stephen Fortune and Conor Fortune stayed solid as did Keeper Jamie Heffernan.
Goldsmith had a shot blocked near the end from a sea of Hibs bodies but they cleared and the full time whistle blew with Hibs taking the three points.
