St Michaels (Dublin)- 2
A late Daniel O’Brien winner sent the Saints marching into the next round of the RPB Cup on Sunday.
Premier B side St Michael’s defeated Kilmore Celtic’s second string.
Michaels didn’t have things all their own way and were indebted to a first half peno save before eventually securing a winner.
The home side couldn’t have got of to a better start as Garreth McCabe put them ahead after winning the ball high up the pitch and finishing.
Stephen Curtis then leveled the game up around the half hour mark with a brilliant solo effort, his second goal in two games.
Ten minutes later and the visitors had a chance to go in front, but missed a penalty and the sides went in level at the break.
The second half was a tight and keenly contested affair, but Michaels took the lead with 20 minutes remaining.
A short corner routine presented O’Brien with a free header and he made no mistake and scored the games decisive strike.
The visitors did push on in a bid to restore parity but Michaels defended well over the last 20 and held out for the win.
