Munster Senior League
Ringmahon Rangers- 3
Avondale United- 1
A brilliant second half Dean Swords hat trick saw Ringmahon Rangers come from behind to win the opening game of the new Munster Senior League season.
Rangers went in a goal behind to near by rivals Avondale in the MSL curtain raiser, but turned on the style after the turn to score three times and bank three points in the process.
Avondale had the majority of possession in a somewhat scrappy opening and managed to take the lead.
The visitors pounced on an error to provide Danny O’Connell with a chance and he made no mistake finishing with aplomb to break the deadlock in the derby.
Live wire Swords had two decent chances before the turn, but the The Dale managed to take an advantage into the turn.
The home manager Aiden Foley wasn’t too happy come half time and his rallying call could be heard from the dressing room during the break and it seemed to have an instant impact.
New signing Anthony McAlvey began to take control of the midfield with Cairns and Swords looking a threat.
The homeside’s new found dominance finally reaped reward when new Irish amateur International Philip Keane teed up Swords who fired home from 20 yards.
The former Cobh Ramblers player extended the lead in more impressive fashion soon after, this time collecting a pass from McAlvey before finding the back of the net from all of 25 yards.
The game was done and dusted five minutes later as Swords secured three points, his hat trick and the match ball.
The striker collected the ball with his back to goal turned beautifully before finding the top corner to get his and Ringmahon’s season off to a flying start.
