Leinster Junior Cup
The Byrne’s were on fire as Trinity Donaghmede got one over on old AUL rivals on Friday night.
Brothers Dave and Dillyn accounted for all the sides goals as Trinity beat McKelvey Celtic to progress to the next round of the Leinster Junior Cup.
Dave Byrne scored in the first half but Dillyn managed a second half hat trick in the cup win.
In fairness to McKelvey they did mount a late comeback attempt and Trinity needed a great Adam Corbey save to ensure his side took an AUL Cup scalp.
The sides went in level at one a piece after a relatively even first half, with Dave Byrne scoring for Trinity.
However, Dillyn Byrne then went on the hat trick trail for the LSL sixth tier side. The attacker scored one from play and converted two penalties as the recent AUL defectors pulled clear.
Trinity had chances to further their lead but were denied by the woodwork on two occasions. McKelvey looked dead and buried, but produced a late fight back and two quick fire late goals put them within one.
Indeed, Celtic had a late chance to force extra time, but Corbey produced a brilliant point blank save leaving Trinity victorious.
