They left it till after the last minute, but Edenderry Town eventually got their season off to a winning start on Friday night.
The team, who finished fifth last season and have promotion aspirations this term, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat scoring twice in injury time to deny promoted Inchicore Athletic an opening day win.
Liam Donnelly was the goal scoring hero scoring in the 93 and 95 minute to turn the tie on its head right at the death.
Edenderry went in front early on through Derek Foran before Inchicore took control of the match with two quick goals midway through the first half.
Mark Donoghue levelled from the spot before a strike from play ensured them a half time lead.
Despite Town dominating possession, the away side were solid and comfortable at the back early in the second half. The visitors also remained threat on the break and were frustrating Edenderry.
The introduction of Dean Cummins midway through the second half seemed to increase the home sides chances of getting a result.
However, it didn’t look like it was going to be the hosts night when five minutes short of full time Donnelly had a goal ruled out for offside.
Edenderry didn’t need to worry- it wasn’t long before they were celebrating a leveller and then a late late winner.
Donnelly pounced on a loose ball come goal mouth scramble time to poke home before the new signing raced onto a beautifully timed Jack Foran pass to finish.
