Donnycarney are the first team into round six of the FAI Junior Cup after a dramatic victory against local rivals Kilmore Celtic on Friday night.
The Dons won the eagerly anticipated all Premier C clash and Artane derby, defeating Kilmore in the first of the weekend’s open draw games.
Mark Ludlow bagged a brace for the visitors, but the real hero was Robbie Fay who saved a Kilmore penalty in injury time when just one goal separated the sides.
Ludlow opened the scoring when Kevin Warren found Calvin Madden, who cut the ball back to Ludlow, who finished well.
A game worthy of the TV camera’s ensued and fittingly their was late drama. Kilmore’s FAI Junior Cup peno saving and peno scoring hero stood over another spot kick and had the chance to level proceedings in injury time.
Fay, however, produced a save and the pivotal moment of the game to keep his side in progression pole.
The Dons then put a bit of gloss on the score card with a goal right at the death. Ludlow was taken down as he raced through on goal picked himself up, dusted himself down and found the top left hand corner from 12 yards right on the stroke of full time.
Considering tonight’s eagerly anticipated clash was the only FAI Junior Cup game of the night Donnycarney are now the only team confirmed in round six.
The sides meet for a third time this season when the renew acquaintances in the Leinster Junior Cup next weekend.
