By Thomas Fitzpatrick
Janesboro continued their good run of form as they took all three points in their first league game for over a month. They were five goals to the good in the first half and that helped the Boro on their way to a well deserved three points.
The first chance of the game fell to Granville on twelve minutes when Barry Butler beat his man on the wing, cut inside and hit a shot from the edge of the box but Glasheen in the Boro goals did well to get a hand to it.
Janesboro’s first chance fell to Brendan Rooney after Shane Clarke played him in but his shot was straight at Robert Power in the Granville goals. Boro took the lead on 15 minutes after great work from O’Gorman and Quaid put Shane Clarke through. The lethel marksman’s shot was well saved by Power but fell to Hayes who slotted the ball in the bottom corner.
They almost doubled their lead just two minutes later when Clarke beat two men but his shot was brilliantly saved by Power.
Granville had their keeper to thank for keeping the Boro out again when he made two fine saves. The first came after a good cross from Hayes picked out Thomas Clarke butPower tipped his header over. Then from the resulting corner Power saved a Rooney header after a good cross from Thomas Clarke.
Boro finally got their second on 28 minutes after a corner from Lyons was cleared only as far as Hurley and he hit a shot from the edge of the box which took a slight deflection to loop over the keeper.
Two minutes later it was 3-0 after the superb O’Gorman and Hayes traded passes to put in Rooney who beat his man to fire past the keeper. Minutes later Boro made it four. Hurley won the ball in defence and played it to Shane Clarke who hit a high garryowen into the air, the Granville defender didn’t deal with it and Quaid slid in to toe poke it past the keeper.
On 35 minutes Boro got their fifth to kill the game when O’Gorman beat two men and hit a sweet shot from 35 yards out which sailed into the top corner.
Boro started the second half well and added another goal five minutes into the second half. O’Gorman played a short corner to McMarlow who swung in a cross which fell to the league’s top scorer Shane Clarke to tap in at the front post. He almost added another goal moments later but Power did well again to save his 25 yard free kick.
Granville pulled a goal back with fifteen minutes left. Glasheen made a save and as he walked out he spilled the ball and picked it up again giving the ref no choice but to award an indirect free kick. After much confusion and having to retake the free Thomas O’Dwyer ran up and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Boro continued to press and created chances with Declan Nash, playing his first game of the season going close when Brazier played him in but Power did well to save his shot.
With 5 minutes remaining Boro came close to adding number seven. Shane Clarke shrugged off his man and played in Brazier but Power made a good save. Brazier came close again moments later after a good through ball from Quaid but again Power was on hand to make a fine save.
The result leaves Boro in a good position keep the pressure on both Pike and Geraldines in the League.
