LSL Senior 1 Sunday
League of Ireland legend Declan O’Brien eventually got his management career off to a fab start.
The Senior 1 side travelled to Dunboyne midweek, registered an away win and managed to hit four goals.
The manager did have a testing time to overcome and his first ever half time team talk must have been challenging as his side trailed by a goal at the break.
He got the response he would have like though as Verona hit four after the break to bank all three points.
The first half was a tentative affair, but the hosts did manage to steal ahead during injury time as they converted from the spot.
Verona took instant control after the break and restored parity within eight minutes of the restart when the manager ‘Fabio’ O’Brien’s header from an Ian Croft corner forced the keeper into a brilliant save and Cian Maher fired home the rebound.
10 minutes later and the visitor were ahead and again it followed a corner kick. Ian Croft took the kick and when the ball was played back to him he struck an unstoppable shot home.
Within just five minutes and Verona had a two goal cushion as Sean Noble scored following some neat interplay between O’Rouke and Croft.
Ian Croft added his second goal, on 70 minutes, to seal an excellent away win for Verona.
