Boyle Celtic have been on song during their FAI Junior Cup run and it seems they continue to hit the right notes ahead of their semi final clash with Evergreen FC on April 9.
It’s something usually reserved for FA Cup finalists, but before their last four clash in the biggest cup competition in Europe Boyle Celtic have recorded and released a song.
Not only that the reigning Sligo-Leitrim Super League champions managed to topple both Selena Gomez and Ed Sheeran in the Irish iTunes download chart to reach number one in Ireland.
The song, which features local artists Kevin Hickey and Dónal O’Connor, entered the charts on Tuesday afternoon at Number three behind Kygo and Selena Gomez with ‘It Ain’t Me’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Galway Girl’. Following a surge of downloads it climbed quickly and reached top spot by 5pm on Tuesday evening.
‘The Boyle Celtic Song’ then dropped back into number two overnight and remains in the top five most downloaded songs in Ireland over 24 hours later ahead of the likes of Taylor Swift, Zayn, Rag n’ Bone Man and Katy Perry.
‘The Boyle Celtic Song’ has certainly proved a hit, but Celtic will be more determined to prove themselves the number one Junior side in Ireland rather than the iTunes number one artists.
Boyle Celtic have created history this year reaching the last four of the Aviva-sponsored FAI Junior Cup. A win against Evergreen on Sunday week at the Showgrounds will see the team qualify to play in the final, which will be played at the Aviva Stadium on May 13.
