Reigning FAI Junior Cup champions North End United have added another experienced former pro to their squad.
It seems the Wexford side are not content with winning the biggest cup competition in Europe and are targeting retention next season.
Long reigning coach John Godkin had the talents of Paul Murphy at his disposal last season as well some other former LOI players, but now adds Gary Dempsey to the line up.
Dempsey’s CV makes for impressive reading, the former Everton Youth played for the likes of Dunfermline Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, Yeovil Town, Darlington and Aberdeen across the water as well as the likes of Bray Wanderers, Shelbourne and St Patricks Athletic.
For the last three seasons he has been player manager at Greystones United and oversaw two LSL Senior Sunday great escapes before the Wicklow side were relegated last season.
At 37 Dempsey should be reaching the twilight of his career, but despite having managerial responsibilities at Greystone’s the experienced footballer was one of if not the clubs best performer in recent seasons.
Dempsey manned a number of positions for ‘Stones, scored crucial goals, was deadly over a dead ball and proved an on field leader and if the player can stand out at top intermediate level it’s safe to assume he could prove a massive signing for the Junior side.
