LSL Premier Saturday
Rush Ath – 5
Skerries Town – 1
Table toppers Rush Athletic put on another five star performance on Sunday in dispensing of their seaside neighbours Skerries Town.
Skerries are the only team to take points from Rush this season after a draw in the first game of the season but this time out the league leaders showed the type of form that sees them at the summit of the table.
Rush started very brightly when Gary Powell hit the woodwork inside the first minute. It took the league leaders ten minutes to get on the scoreboard. The ever reliable Barry McAllister followed in from Mark Doyle’s strike after great work down the wing from Powell.
The second followed from 17 year old Cian Savage who calmly lifted the ball over the diving ‘Town keeper and they took that two goal lead into the half time break.
Early in the second Skerries got their reward for their endeavour when they finished off a set piece with a headed goal at the back post. This however was only going to awaken the beast! The very important third came from Gary Powell after he showed great determination when finishing off at the second attempt.
The fourth came from the penalty spot when Doyle slotted home from 12 yards before the fifth came soon after – it was probably the pick of the bunch.
The big number 9 Doyle came in from the left and despatched an unstoppable shot into the bottom right hand corner. Game over.
With Knocklyon and Mulling are both dropping points yesterday, Rush are now 8 points clear with a game in hand.
