The biggest staging of the Fota Island Resort Gaynor Tournament proved to be its most popular with standards raised at the University of Limerick over the course of the four-day event.
In the final game of the tournament, Metropolitan Girls League claimed a 1-0 win over Galway and District League thanks to a first-half penalty from Alannah McEvoy. McEvoy, who starred for the Republic of Ireland WU17 side at the UEFA European Championships, ensured her side lifted the trophy, presented to them by Republic of Ireland WNT Head Coach Colin Bell.
In the Under 14 Final, Galway and District League triumphed in an all-Connacht affair against Sligo Leitrim and District League. In an enthralling final between two unbeaten sides, Orlaith Conlon scored the winning goal after great work by Anna Fahey. Galway were presented with the trophy by FAI CEO John Delaney as Galway reached the final in all three age-groups (U12, U14, U16).
Limerick Desmond walked away with third place in the U16 Cup after a narrow 1-0 win over Cork. Metropolitan Girls League claimed third place in the U14 Cup after a narrow 1-0 win over Inishowen League which means Metropolitan finished in the top three in all three age-groups, winning two.
The two finals wrapped up the four-day tournament which has saw over 45 teams compete and over 1,000 girls participate in the tournament, which was sponsored by Fota Island Resort for the first time.
