Shane Gillard made if four goals in five pre season games as Tolka Rovers secured passage in the Frank Roe Cup final.
The former Darndale wide man hit a brace as Rovers defeated LSL new boys Trinity Donaghmede to set up a Pioneers decider.
Gillard opened the scoring around the 15 minute mark when he collected a diagonal ball from Karl Young, took a touch and volleyed into the far corner from just outside the box.
Within five minutes the home side were two to the good, Young swung in a corner that wasn’t dealt with by the away defence allowing Philly McCabe to pounce from 6 yards.
Trinity responded well and pulled one back from the spot before half time arrived, but within 15 minutes of the restart Tolka’s two goal cushion was restored.
McCabe turned provider around the hour mark as he picked out Dean Marshall with a brilliant cross and the fromer Rivervalley Rangers full back tapped home.
With just under 20 minutes to go Gillard secured his second and wrapped up the win as he pounced come goal mouth scramble time to fire close range through the net minders legs.
Ken Oman threatened to make it a five star performance, but saw his late header cleared off the line. Regardless Tolka are through to their own pre season final and will take on Pioneers tomorrow at 4 in Frank Cooke Park.
