Leinster Junior Cup
St Mochtas- 4
Christian Dietz ran riot in Morton Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The hit two goals and was sensational from start to finish as the Saints beat Drumcondra and marched into round two of the Leinster Junior Cup.
The clubs Saturday side looked rather comfortable throughout and were deserving of the victory.
Fittingly it was Dietz who had the games first chance, but while Ryan Healy was able to save from the wide right attacker early on he wasn’t able to stop Graham Hughes from breaking the deadlock eight minutes later.
Hughes pounced on a poor Drums kick-out to open the scoring in relatively flamboyant fashion.
The visitors continued to dominate with Dietz causing all kinds of trouble for the Drumcondra, nearly assisting Maguire before just firing over.
Before half time the hosts began to enjoy some periods of possession but it was Mocthas and Dietz who found the net next.
The attacker got the goal his first half performance deserved as he put the finishing touches on a good team move double the advantage before the break.
After doubling the lead a minute before the break Dietz managed to treble it with superb top corner finder just three minutes after the restart.
Drums responded well and not long after seeing a shot scrape over the crossbar they were back to within two as Josh Flood scored from the spot.
The game saw another penalty three minutes later, but this time it went the way of visitors and Glen O’Donnell scored to put three between the sides with 33 minutes left.
The away side came close to extending that advantage Bilko Kakar, O’Donnell and Dietz all flirted with finding the net, but the scoreline stayed the same and Mocthas progressed thanks to a three goal cushion.
