The man that scored the goals that ultimately cemented Hardwicke’s Premier A place has jumped ship and will be looking to find the net in a title rather than relegation battle next season.
Thomas Cooney has traded Hardwicke for Usher Celtic and will play for last season’s Premier A runners up this coming season.
Cooney left Rivervalley Rangers for Hardwicke in the winter window and scored three decisive goals in three relegation six pointers as the Inner City side secured survival at the tail end of the season.
‘The Hitman’, who bagged 16 goals across two clubs last season, now moves to Usher Celtic and may look to try and fill the boots of last seasons AUL top scorer Stephen Donnelly, who is now at Bohemians.
There is nothing to suggest Hardwicke won’t have a solid season and their young squad has been very impressive in pre season, but considering their improvements last season Usher are deemed by most to be the biggest threat to Sheriff YC’s dominance and Cooney will see it as a positive move.
‘The Hitman’ will be looking to form a strong partnership with the brilliant Jordan Buckley, a player he has no qualms claiming is ‘the best player in Premier A’.
