Super sub Stephen Cantwell came off the bench to fire Drumcondra into the second round of the Metro Cup on Friday night.
The former St Kevin’s front man came on with the game deadlocked at two a piece and with Greenhills/Greenpark in contention for a bit of an upset in the Herald sponsored competition.
However, with five minutes to go the pacey front man, who has worn the captains armband at Drums, scored the games decisive goal before adding some gloss to the scoreline with his second three minutes into injury time.
With just five minutes gone it didn’t look like the hosts would need a late Cantwell intervention as wide left player Adam Burch opened the scoring.
However, the visitors showed real resolve and fought their way back into the game just over 20 minutes later.
The sides went in all square at the break and it remained level until the hour mark when Drumcondra went ahead for a second time.
Another sub Eric Douglas found the net for the side who have won just won of their first six Senior Sunday 1 games this season.
The mid table Senior 1B outfit fought back for a second time and leveled with 14 minutes remaining.
A draw looked a real possibility, but Cantwell had other ideas scoring with five minutes to go before completing his a brace form the bench in injury time.
