FAI Intermediate Cup
Cherry Orchard-1 (AET)
Cherry Orchard finally found passage past an inspired Templeogue goal keeper and into the second round of the FAI Intermediate Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The top flight side looked like they may just be held by a team that play two division below Senior Sunday, but scored with just five minutes of extra time remaining to take step one along the Road to the Aviva.
After frustrating the Orchard for the majority of the tie, John Brian Carty, who made good saves from Anthony Shortt and Mark Sandford in particular, was finally beaten with five minutes to go.
Sandford managed to find the next in extra time to send a team that exited to Cork opponents Everton at the last 16 stage last season into round 2.
The Orchard had a minute silence before the game for late club man Jem Byrne and dedicated the win to the club legend.
RESULT: FAI Intermediate Cup Round 1 @OrchardSnr 1-0 Templeogue United. AET.
That was for you Jem!!! 😇😇
