LSL Senior Sunday
He hasn’t been as prominent this season as he was last, but Keith Dunne produced when it mattered most for St Mochtas on Sunday morning.
The former Sheriff YC front man scored the only goal of the game as the Saints returned to the summit.
Dunne’s second half strike against Killester United ensured the Porterstown side took full advantage of Bluebell’s midweek defeat to go three clear at the top of the table with a game to spare of the chasing pack.
Mochtas started with intent and had an early Philly Hughes free cleared off the line, but only a brilliant Luke Kelly challenge come block prevented them going a goal down minutes later.
A brilliant Ciaran Bizzell save then denied Killester legend David Lacey from scoring against his old club on 21 minutes before Killester hit the crossbar in a back and fort half.
The sides went in level at the break and continued to trade chances after the turn.
Luke Kelly came close with a free kick while Morgan Cranley was forced to parry away a powerful visiting drive.
Karl Somers had to clear of the line on the hour, but six minutes later Mochtas took the lead.
The ball was worked to Keith Dunne on the left hand side of the area and he finished calmly to put the home side in front.
Neither side created anything too clear cut after that strike and Saints went on to back what could prove a vital three points against fourth place Killester.
