A host of sides across the country put in impressive performances last week.
Some’s chances of securing a Team of the Week gong were enhanced by the fact they played three times in seven days, giving them more opportunity to catch the eye.
The likes of Pike Rovers from the Limerick District Premier have been in fine form. The 2015/16 FAI Junior Cup finalists scored seven against Moyross on Sunday, followed it up with four against Charlville on Thursday and then ground out a 1-0 win over Ballynanty with a different type of performance on Sunday just gone. Regional United also impressed in that league and maintained their unbeaten start to go top of the division.
Sheriff did something similar with a comfortable win on the opening day against Baldoyle followed up with a battling last gasp victory over a resilient Howth.
Crumlin United did things the other way round scoring late to beat Bangor in a tense derby to get their season off to a winning start, before finding their scoring touch to put five past Malahide on Sunday, a feat equalled by Bluebell United against Firhouse Clover.
However, this weeks Team of the Week award goes to Newlands/Castlepark. The side registered two impressive wins in the space of five days and pipped some form teams to the award.
The Clondalkin side are involved in what is shaping up to be an exciting Major Sunday Division, but before kick off were not one of the many sides in the ‘one to watch’ bracket. However, after derby victory over Clondalkin Celtic midweek the managed to go and put five past former AUL powerhouse St Kevin’s Boys to round off a perfect week.
