Victory in the biggest clash of the weekend ensured Killester United have claimed the JSP Team of the Week gong.
Killester welcomed Crumlin United to Haddon Park in a game that was to be a test of the title credentials and they passed with flying colours.
Indeed, Gary Howlett’s men went eight points clear at the top of the Intermediate summit thanks to the win and in the process cemented their status as genuine title contenders at this early stage.
No doubt people will point out it’s early doors and that the grueling season always catches up on out of the blocks leaders. That ‘get over the line’ experience is another thing that is raised when a team without a Senior Sunday title win enters the mix.
However, the manner of this win suggests Killester certainly have the fight to be there or there abouts come the final few weeks of the 2017/18 term.
The three points were acquired from a losing position. Having lost their previous game away to newly promoted Newbridge some doubts may have entered the players minds. Going a goal down early on to a team of the quality of Crumlin might have compounded those fears.
However, Killester fought back via a Lennie McMillian double and battled when it applied to ensure the registered a win that was big in terms of points but possibly bigger in terms of morale and confidence.
