A Man of the Match performance by goalkeeper Sean Barron prevented Everton from registering an impressive win over Avondale United on Sunday.
Everton, who impressed in last seaon’s FAI Intermediate Cup, enjoyed large spells of possession playing against 10 men for over 45 minutes.
However, Barron produced a number of saves including a sensational stop down to deny David Daly a spectacular winner and Everton had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Little separated the sides in the opening half but the Dales were down to 10 men just before the interval when Vinny O’Brien saw red for a second yellow.
Everton dominated the early part of the second half and had chances to take the lead but stout defending by the Dales kept them at bay.
Everton had a glorious chance on 54 mins when Laurence Fitzpatrick hit the bar from close range with only Barron to beat .
The Dales were under the cosh at this stage as Everton worked the extra man . Evertons Fitzpatrick was shown a red card for a rash challenge on 64 mins and the game evened up after that .
Sean Barron came to the Dales rescue with a few minutes left after the home team pressure when an overhead kick from David Daly was destined for the bottom corner of the net but Barron somehow got down to save and earn the Dales a share of the points.
Referee Graham Kelly with no linemen on duty to help him got all the major calls correct in a very competitive game.
