It could have been the story of the year. Keith Fahey returns to the Tallaght Stadium with amateur side Bluebell and scores the winner to put the LSL side to within one victory of an FAI Senior Cup final.
However, the former Irish International won’t sport the blue of ‘Bell when they take on the League of Ireland side this Friday night.
Fahey, who has more of an association with St Patrick’s Athletic, but did play for a season at Tallaght, has been suspended from the clash. A second yellow 93 minutes into his sides last 16 win over Cabinteely has made the midfielder ineligible via suspension for what could prove a historic night for the club and amateur football if things go ‘Bells way.
It’s a blow for Andy Noonan’s men, but there is no doubt they will feel they have enough quality to be competitive at the very least.
In Paul Keegan, Tony Griffiths, Keith Quinn and Dean Ebbe they have players with various degrees of LOI experience and they have talent and options all over the pitch.
While Shane Stritch is in great form Ebbe in particular could be one to watch out on Friday night. The former Shamrock Rovers Under-19 has enjoyed his trips back to the Tallaght stadium with amateur sides.
Indeed the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle front man scored twice at the ground as Collinstown became the first ‘non-league’ side since Dunleary Celtic back in 1980 to defeat Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup a few season ago.
