LSL Senior 1B
Hartstown Huntstown FC – 1
Kilbarrack United FC – 3
Kilbarrack United maintained their unbeaten start to their LSL Senior 1B season with victory over Hartstown Huntstown on Friday night. Chris McDonnell’s side have now played four, won three and drawn one in their maiden season in the Intermediate ranks. Friday night’s win by three goals to one sees them move up to second in the table with games in hand over those above them.
The opening exchanges were cagey with neither side having any real clear cut chances in the first 25 minutes. Kilbarrack though had the better of the possession and came close on 29 minutes when Alan Clarke stung the keeper’s hands with a strike from distance.
Just a minute later and they took the lead. With the Hartstown Huntstown keeper in possession Eoin Fowler and Alan Clarke pressed fast forcing a rushed clearance that fell to Anto McKay. He took a touch before driving into the bottom corner from 30 yards out.
The advantage was deservedly doubled seven minutes later when Fowler flicked on to Clarke who laid off to McKay – his strike was saved and fell to Sean Beresford who fired into the net from the edge of the box and Kilbarrack took that two goal advantage into the break.
After the turn Kilbarrack continued to look the more dominant and and with 55 on the clock in was three-nil. Beresford showed the home defence a clean pair of heels and skipped around the keeper before rolling the ball into an empty net for his fifth of the season and it looked like the game was over.
The home side had other ideas and just five minutes later they pulled one back when Dylan Wade fired home from the edge of the box and the home side gained some hope. That goal prompted a bit of a purple patch for the hosts but they could not find a way past the resolute Kilbarrack defence and Chris McDonnell’s side took all three points.
