AUL Division 2 Saturday
Mulhuddart – 3
Elm Mount – 4
A late, late winner handed all three points to Elm Mount over Mulhuddart in the AUL Division 2 Saturday on Saturday morning.
The hosts opened the scoring with a superb free-kick on 18 minutes and had a chance to double their advantage less than 10 minutes later from the penalty spot only for Rob Gaffney to pull off a fantastic save in between the Elm Mount sticks.
On 37 minutes Elm Mount found a leveler when David Brown volleyed home following an excellent angled through ball which allowed Brown the space to fire it into the net from close range.
However, just before the half-time break a long-ball over the top combined with a neat finish ensured Mulhuddart took a one goal lead into the break.
Elm Mount began the second 45 at a much higher tempo displayed in the first and brought the game level once more when John Walsh won a penalty and then stepped up to convert it.
With fifteen left to play Elm Mount grabbed the lead for the first time in the game when Brown’s precision cross picked out Walsh who nodded the ball home to make it 3-2.
However, the drama was yet to cease as with barely four minutes remaining Mulhuddart equalized after getting on the end of a corner-kick.
In the dying minutes, both sides continued to press but it was Elm Mount who would score the winner. Dwayne Farrell took a quick throw into the feet of Darren Walsh who lifted the ball into the danger zone where an unfortunate Mulhuddart man turned the ball into his own net to give the visitors all three points.
A cracking game of football was then brought to its conclusion. Certainly a game which will live long in the memory as both sides put on a marvelous display that didn’t include a single yellow or red card throughout the entire contest. Both sides a credit to their clubs.
