Mid Sutton Sportslink-2
A late Sean French peno save prevented Collinstown suffering a rare three defeats on the bounce on Sunday morning.
With the game level going into the last minute Mid Sutton Sportslink were handed the chance to inflict another defeat on one of the favourites from promotion, but xx saved to ensure the visitors got a welcome result.
While it hasn’t be the ideal start to the season for a side who have climbed up to Intermediate football since departing the AUL manager Kev Carroll will take something from the fact his side showed spirit to twice bounce back to eventually secure a point.
The home side got the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead via Andy Nugent. Nugent latched on to a long ball from Andy Loughheed before volleying home the opener.
Collinstown got back into the game from a corner kick, ‘Horse’ Brogan finishing from close range after an initial effort was blocked.
MSS picked it up again and regained the lead via Ciaran Mackey.
Lougheed was again involved taking down a ball, cutting inside and fizzing a ball to Ciaran Mackey who touch a great first touch before clipping over the on rushing keeper to make it 2-1 going into the break.
Collinstown picked up the tempo post the turn and started to dominate.
They created a number chances before and hit the bar before eventually drawing level.
The Clondalkin side won possession inside their own half and a break away goal lead to a Clarke finish.
Momentum was now with the visitors and they continued to apply the pressure. Two close free kicks, and a shot from play off of the post saw them flirt with grabbing a winner.
However, the best chance to take all three points came they way of Mid Sutton.
The lively Andy Nugent nicked the ball in the box before he was taken down. The referee pointed to the spot, Luke Morrissey stepped up to take the penalty after a delay in play, but was denied by French.
