Inter League Youths Cup
Clare and Limerick played out an entertaining draw at Jackman Park on Saturday in the Inter League Youths Cup. After losing to Galway in their first match in the group Clare put in a much improved performance and on the balance of play were unlucky not to get a victory on the day over a good Limerick side.
Clare started well and Callum McNamara got on the end of a good passing move inside the first minute and Adam Doherty was called on to make a good save.
Killian Moloney fired in a good effort for Limerick from the edge of the box on 10 minutes that just went the wrong side of the post.
Good play from Conor Murphy down the left wing created some space for Robbie Waller on 20 minutes and his well delivered ball to the back post to Danny Clancy saw his header narrowly miss the target.
Darragh Lohan had to be sharp at the back for Clare on 25 minutes to make a well timed tackle on Cian Power who made a good run into the Clare box.
Clare suffered a blow on 30 minutes when captain Robbie Waller suffered a hamstring injury and was replace by Enda Egan.
Limerick went in front on 34 minutes when a deflected shot fell nicely in the box to Cian Power who finished well passed Peter Sziga in the Clare goal.
Clare immediately went on the attack and good play from Enda Egan was stopped by a foul 25 yards from goal. Mark McInerney stepped up to take the free kick and fired an unstoppable shot past Adam Doherty in the Limerick goal.
McInerney went close to giving Clare the lead just before the half time whistle with another shot from outside the box that deflected narrowly wide of the Limerick goal.
Clare started the second half well and took a deserved lead on 55 minutes when good play from Clare ended with Kai Khetan getting some space at the back post and he finished well with a low shot to the back of the Limerick net.
Limerick hit back immediately when Power again got some space in the box and he made no mistake to make it 2-2.
Clare threw everything at Limerick in the closing stage in search of a winning goal but unfortunately could not find another goal that their play deserved.
Enda Egan had a shot hit the crossbar on 74 minutes. Adam Ryan had a shot from the edge of the box deflected the wrong side of the post. Limerick scrambled the ball off their goal line in injury from a well delivered corner from Ryan as the game finished 2-2 and the group will now be decided in February when Limerick make the trip to Galway needing a draw to join their hosts in the knockout stages.
