Newlands/Castlepark went top of Major Sunday thanks to an emphatic win over fancied major side St Kevin’s Boys on Sunday morning.
The Clondlakin side became the second team in a a matter of days to put five past the former AUL big guns as they followed up their mid week derby win with another impressive display.
Despite the wide finishing margin the first 20 minutes were actually tight and tense with both net minders pulling off impressive saves.
The Moyle Park residents then won a peno which Dean O’Reilly slotted home confidently to break the dead lock.
Tom McDonnell made it two soon after with a great run and finish before Liam O’Rourke all but ended the tie as a contest. O’Rourke headed home a corner right on the stroke of half time.
Kevin’s put some pressure on just after the break but James Toner broke any comeback hopes as he slotted home to push the advantage to four when he turned home an Eric Spring cross.
Padraig Buckley then rounded off a perfect few days for Newlands with a tidy late finish.
