JOE DELANEY CUP QUARTER FINAL
BT HARPS 0
Luke Quinn put in a mighty last 20 minutes to ensure St Michaels finally broke down a resilient BT Harps over the weekend.
Harps certainly gave the big Tipp side a game and with 20 minutes remaining looked in contention to progress in the pre season cup clash.
However, Quinn struck twice late on to send Michael’s into the semi finals.
Saints could have taken the lead on 6 mins when Paddy Fitzgerald found Rodrigo Concalves who made space down the left and played in Ollie O’Driscoll but Cuba Deban was equal to his goalbound shot and turned it round the post for a corner kick.
On 15 mins a good move down the right saw Harps have their first attempt on target, but Eanna McBride’s shot was well gathered by Adrian Walsh.
Michael’s were having the better of the play, but couldn’t break the dead lock. Ollie O’Driscoll saw a shot blocked while Shane Neville always had a half chance to no avail and as a result the sides went in level at 0-0 at the break.
Saints brought introduced some big names including Paul Breen , Jimmy Carr and Alan O’Donnell at half time and looked a bit more threatening as a result. Although Harps nearly caught Saints napping on 50 mins when Jack Kennedy narrowly headed wide from a cross.
Saints went close on 53 mins when Alan O’Donnell freed David Slattery on the right and he crossed for Ollie O’Driscoll who shot straight at Kuba Beban from close range.
They were denied again when Ollie O’Driscoll was unlucky to see his right foot shot come back off the post on 67 mins after a one two with David Slattery. Luke Quinn was next to be denied by Beban with around 20 minutes to go it looked at that stage like it might be a frustrating day for Michaels, but within two minutes they broke the deadlock.
Ollie O’Driscoll did well from an Alan O’Donnell pass and the ball broke kindly for Luke Quinn, who back heeled home from close range.
It was game set and match on 87 mins when Alan O’Donnell picked up a throw from Adrian Walsh and found Jimmy Carr who showed good vision to find Luke Quinn on the right who beat Beban from 12 yards to put Saints into the semi final.
