Another amateur player with LOI previous takes the My Best #11 hot seat this week.
Current Firhouse Clover keeper has played with Kildare Town and Monaghan in the League and has been a successful top flight LSL player of late. Indeed, he represented the LSL in the Inter Pros.
Murphy picks his My Best #11- check it out below:
GK – Morgan Cranley. Myself and Morgan have been involved in a lot of great games over the years. Always consistent and has proven to be a top keeper. Although, a little mention must go out to Ian Molloy. Ian actually asked me to given him a mention here and to be fair.. I’m sure will be in future my 11s.
LB – Darren Stapleton. Played with Darren at a few clubs. Darren is a quality player and despite being known for his defending abilities is also a quality midfielder. Darren has been around the block and has lots of ability.
CB – Ray Kerns. Played with Ray at Phoenix for years and in my opinion was one of the best CB’s in the league back then. Often underrated but always made my job easy. Ray was a great captain, brilliant in the air and a tough tackler.
CB – Peter Higgins. Higgo joined Firhouse last season having dropped down from the LOI. Peter has an abundance of ability and adds a sense of calm in our defense. Not the tallest CB in the world, but a very good ball winner and defender.
RB – Davey Philips. Another ex-Phoenix team mate. Davey made my job easy and was always in the right place at the right time who also loved to get it down and play. He was ever present over the years and rarely set a foot wrong.
LW – Carl Wynne. Carl is the managers pet and the current club poster boy who is known to most refs for his moaning. Carl sports a unique set of glass ankles and potentially one of the worst haircuts in the league… but on his day Carl could win you a game with his pin point deliveries
CM – Mikey Doyle. Firhouse Player of year and a fantastic footballer all round. Mike is not our captain but a certainly a leader on the pitch. Mike is known to create those little traps for defenders and likewise rarely sets a foot wrong. In fairness the chap actually never talks in the dressers so I have nothing else to add.
CM – Mick Mc Loughlin. Mick joined Clover this year and has been ever present. Mike a known to be a playmaker but also loves a crunching tackle. Having played against Mick over recent seasons he is certainly worthy of the mention. Mick went one further by even fixing the squad up with some Canadian duck feather winter jackets and some stylish American Eagle belt buckles which are back in fashion down in Ballyer.
RW – Dar Forsyth. Dar has been around the block at all levels and is our captain. The experienced big man who constantly talks about retiring despite only being 29, is not known for his blistering pace. Dar is great in and around the dressing room. Despite his touch, he is ever dependable and works very hard to win the ball back, which is usually when he loses it.
CF – John Brophy. Big John scored many outrageous goals for Phoenix and is still doing it today for Killester. The big man is great in the air and has a surprisingly good touch. John can gets around and can smash the net. Great player over the years and has been known to play CB or even in nets.
CF – Robbie Shields. I played with Robbie at Cherry Orchard. Robbie was a wizard with the ball at his feet and often left defenders for dead with his tricks. A great player who could win you a game in a few moments of brilliance.
