Munster Junior Cup
Nenagh booked their place in the last eight of the Munster Junior Cup thanks to victory over FAI Junior Cup quarter finalists on Sunday afternoon.
The Limerick District League high flyers brought their league form into the prestigious provincial cup contest and managed to battle their way into the quarter finals at Kerry side Killarney’s expense.
A John Mitchell strike proved the difference on the scoreboard, but some strong second half defending played a big part in this win.
Nenagh, who sit joint top of the table alongside Janesboro in their first ever Limerick top flight season, slightly shaded proceedings early on and they eventually broke the deadlock with 9 minutes to go until the break.
Killarney didn’t buckle and produced a good second half showing. The Kerry side pushed for a leveler, but the back four of Nenagh held firm and the Tipp outfit still looked a threat on the break.
However, neither could find the net after the turn and Mithcell’s strike was enough to see Nenagh into the latter stages of the contest.
