Sheriff YC may just have found the man to take the goal scoring pressure of John Rock.
Most will argue- and most likely correctly, that legendary amateur goal getter doesn’t do pressure, but he has been the main man in terms of goals for a side that forged a reputation as on of the best amateur teams ever.
Now there is a new kid in town, Keith Rickard.
The former East Wall Bessborough front man signed for YC last summer and has proved he is worth his weight in goals.
In his debut season with the club Rickard found the net 30 times and became the first man other than Rock in over a decade to win the Golden Boot for the club.
For 10 seasons and more Rock, who is Deigo Costa like in terms of Panto Villainy, Ronaldo like in terms of numbers whilst being Roberto Firmino like in terms of all round influence before the Brazilian had even turned pro, has been top scorer for a team that ruled the Junior ranks.
However, last season Stephen Donnelly, now of Glenavon, then of Usher Celtic replaced him as the AUL’s top scorer and Rickard took the Golden Boot at Sheriff.
Even more impressive Rickard’s goals came in a comeback season. The attacker had just returned from a serious leg break and was used sparingly early doors as he regained fitness and sharpness.
