North End United-4
Sheriff YC (Premier B)-1
North End United secured passage into round three of the Leinster Senior Cup at Sheriff’s expense thanks to a blistering 15 minute spell on Sunday.
The Wexford side responded well to conceding early on to ensure a two goal cushion before half time thanks to three goals in quick succession.
The home side scored again in a second half they dominated to progress in a contest that could lead to a clash with a League of Ireland side.
Sheriff, who have entered their Premier B side rather than the select that won the FAI Junior Cup last term into the contest, took the lead as Lee Flood found the back of the net early on.
North End, a side with a host of former LOI players, attempted response an attacking game ensued.
However, after hitting the post and forcing the away keeper into some good saves United pulled level. Jason Murphy found the back of the net after putting the finishing touches on a well worked team move.
Gary Byrne then hit a quick fire double and 15 minutes after they were trailing by a goal John Godkin’s charges were two to the good.
The Sky Blues controlled the game from a position of power in the second half and added one more before full time. Talisman Paul Murphy hit the fourth as the experienced striker converted a Byrne cross.
