Junior League Cup final
Super sub Callum O’Donoghue ensured Everton got their 60 year celebrations off to the perfect start over the weekend.
The clubs Junior side came from behind to claim victory in a dramatic Junior League Cup final and bank silverware as early as November.
Callum O’Donoghue claimed hero status as he came off the bench to equalise before putting a fitting cap on an exciting clash scoring a stylish extra time winner.
Everton got off to the perfect start as a Danny Kiely strike granted them a lead after just 10 minutes. However, Ringmahon managed to ensure an even enough first half ended all square as scored before 45 minutes had passed.
A brilliant Johnny Delaney strike then saw the Mahon outfit go ahead and take what looked like a significant step towards cup glory.
However, O’Donoghue was introduced and eventually turned the game on its head. The sub leveled proceedings with 10 minutes to go and forced extra time.
During extra time he then got a winner worthy of any final after brilliant work from Kevin Keeler. The 40 year old Keeler was impressive throughout and still had the legs to go on a driving run and the mindset in extra time to play in O’Donoghue. The goal scoring sub produced an outrageous flick to buy himself space before scoring the winner with a rocket from 30 yards.
The victory, Everton’s fourth League Cup success in eight years, means at the very least they won’t celebrate their 60th year without wining a trophy.
