St Michael’s got the defence of their league title off to a perfect start over the weekend.
The Saints put four past Two Mile Borris to register a rather comfortable opening day win.
The home side were always were the sharper against a Borris side that sat deep and came out with the win.
Michael’s started well with Ollie O’Driscoll leading the line well while Rodrigo Goncalves and Shane Ryan bossed the midfield.
The home side were creating chances and after David Slattery forced a save from Mikelsins O’Driscoll broke the deadlock.
The inform player made it 1-0 on 18 mins with a good finish from an angle after good approach work from Rodrigo Goncalves and Jimmy Carr.
The front man came close again three minutes later and forced another save from the keeper on 29 minutes.
Net Mikelsuns then denied Jimmy Carr and was single handily keeping the visitors in the game.
Goncalves and Paul Breen both had chances before Carr hit the post while O’Driscoll found the side netting and Shane Ryan lifted over as the home side dominated.
The second half continued much in the same vein with Saints mostly through Jimmy Carr probing the Borris defence.
David Slattery finally got the insurance strike his side deserved when on 54 minutes made the game safe for Saints on 54 mins when he doubled on a Sean Guerins cross and found the corner of the net to make.
The chances continued to come for the home side and with just under 20 minutes to go the extended the advantage further.
This time John O’Brien’s cross drifted into the net. O’Driscoll then added some deserved gloss to the scoreboard when he connected with an O’Driscoll cross.
