LFA Junior Cup
Oldbury FC 1-0 St Pats CY
Oldbury FC just needed the one goal to take what is sure to the biggest scalp in this short clubs history.
Oldbury started the first half strong and didn’t give the opposition a minute to themselves and the press, starting from the front, forced CY into some unforced errors.
Chances on goal were at a premium and the main body of work from the home side was coming from the wide areas. Nathan Carl Osborne had a couple of magic touches and Sean O’Neill out on the left was constant thorn in the side for the LSL side.
Indeed it was Oldbury who went closest in the first half as an attack down the left hand side eventually made its way to Anto Cryan whose shot stung the hands of the CY keeper.
The second half began with Oldbury on top again winning a succession of corners and almost finding the net from one when centre half Terry Ward rose highest at back post and sent it wide.
He was not to be denied a second time however and when another corner for the home side found Cryan at the back post he cleverly headed the ball across the six yard box to find an unmarked Ward who flicked the ball on and past the outstretched arms of the CY stopper.
That strike proved to be the decisive one as Oldbury held firm until the final whistle and ensured their name goes into the hat for the next round.
