FAI Junior Cup Round 2
Oliver Bond 3-1 St. Ita’s AFC
With a 100% start to their league campaign all eyes turned to the FAI Junior Cup second round where Oliver Bond would be looking to have a decent run. St. Ita’s came to town with ideas of their own and gave it their all right from the whistle. In a first half dominated by Ita’s the home side had their keeper to thank for keeping the scores level and just before the half time whistle Tommy “The Hitman” Cooney was set up by strike partner Jimmy Mchugh to put Oliver Bond one up at the break.
After the restart it seemed to be more of the same with the visitors pushing on looking for an equaliser and Oliver Bond happy to settle for a one nil win but again the front two combined and Cooney netted his second of the day. On 80 minutes Ita’s got the goal they deserved with a 25 yard screamer to set up a nervy final few minutes for the home team. In the final minute however a nice one two led to the ball being put into the visitors box and falling to a Oliver Bond player who made it 3-1. A lot of positives for Ita’s to take away from the tie but a good win for the Bond who go into the hat for the third round.
